Evy and kids in Cusco Peru
Today we toured Machu Picchu we left the apartment at 7:30 am to go to the Puroy
train station where we boarded the Vistadome train car that would take us to
Aguascalientes or Machu Picchu town. The ride took 3 1/2 hrs and we had the
rail car almost to ourselves. The kids enjoyed being able to change seats and
the freedom to move in the hall. The country side was spectacular, we passed
fields and towns, followed a couple of rivers going down in altitude passing
valleys and snow covered mountains, then the vegetation drastically changed and
the forest became abundant in orchids and vines. The train station exit is
through a craft market that showcases all kind of Peruvian hand made items. The
kids were surprised by some of the offerings like a mini stone axe and ornate
letter openers. Everyone that I talked to recommended to buy ponchos to be
prepared in case of showers, at the markets I found some reasonably priced ones and decided to buy 3, it was the right choice as it rained almost the whole time we
were at the ruins. We walked directly to the bus ticket office and obtained
round trip tickets to the entrance of the ruins. The ride took 25 minutes in a
zigzagging road. The ruins are amazing, the surrounding mountain peaks look
spectacular from all the terraces and staircases. We toured the ruins for over 3
hours, Isabel and I enjoying every minute and David being a super trouper went along. We decided to eat something on the way back and agreed on pizza and nachos
in a place facing the river. The train ride back was as smooth as the way in,
the service was great and car was comfortable even though We were not as lucky as
the car was full and we had to shared our table with a German guy.
